"In high school I was an exchange student in Managua, Nicaragua and I used to play hooky from school to catch butterflies in the jungles. It just left such an indelible mark on me. We went to one of the cotton farms where there was a lake and there must have been a hundred thousand butterflies perched by the lake drinking and each one was more iridescent and more gorgeous than the next. The memory stayed with me for my whole life and I just paint them over and over again. Of course they have all kinds of other meaning of metamorphosis and transformation. Hardly a day goes by where I don’t reference this experience.” -Hunt Slonem
