“I strive to find a balance between chaos and control in my work”

  • Tyler Swain’s art lives at the intersection of chaos and control — finding harmony between abstraction and the intricate realistic details of his subjects is where he thrives.

His current exhibition at The Art Cellar Gallery does not shy away from the challenge of contradiction. When presented with the idea of an exhibition in the High Country, Tyler jumped at the opportunity to expand his subject matter — suggesting he focus’ on subjects with a special resonance to our Appalachian region.

From Longleaf Pines to Dogwood Flowers, Tyler’s challenge to himself to paint subjects he is unfamiliar with is representative of his own artistic practice — walking the fine line between the familiar and the unfamiliar.

  • We are thrilled to debut The Art Cellar’s new ‘pop up’ exhibition series

Over the last 31 years we have had the fortune of welcoming an ever evolving landscape of friends, family, patrons, and artists into our gallery doors. We hope to share with everyone the full scale of incredible artists we represent.

Our new ‘pop up’ exhibitions will provide a flexible new alternative medium to showcase our artists than our traditional Summer Show Series. Never limited in subject, scale, or timing - we simply hope to bring you the best fine art possible as soon as possible.

“On the one hand, I am endlessly fascinated with careful rendering and exploring the intricacies of a subject. On the other, I have a deep love for pure abstraction and spontaneous layers of paint. I call a painting done when these elements harmonize with each other.”
